Chapter 19 - THE HEIR'S FUTURE

Marcus walked out onto the patio, holding two glasses of cold iced tea. He watched Daniel carrying Noah on his shoulders around the lawn, a fond, peaceful smile on his face.
"You look good out here, boss," Marcus said, handing Daniel a glass as he walked back toward the patio. "Much better than behind that obsidian desk in Chicago."
"This is where the real work is, Marcus," Daniel said, setting Noah down so the toddler could play with his puppy again. "Managing a twenty-billion-dollar empire is easy. Raising a good man... that takes work."
"The foundation's board approved the new children's hospital wing in Julian's name this morning," Marcus added. "And the court officially granted full, absolute adoption papers. Legally and in every way that matters, Noah is your son."

Daniel looked over at Noah, who was sitting in the grass, holding up his wooden toy train toward the sun.
"He was always my son the moment I caught him at the bottom of those stairs," Daniel said quietly, his voice filled with deep, fatherly warmth.
