Chapter 5 - THE BOARD’S EXPOSITION

In the grand parlor downstairs, Margaret sat on a velvet sofa, holding an ice pack against her swollen cheek while two local police officers stood beside her taking notes.
When Daniel walked into the room, Margaret pointed a shaking, red-nailed finger at him.
"Officer! That's him!" Margaret shouted, her voice shrill and triumphant. "He struck me! And he's keeping an illegal child in this house to usurp my rightful share of the Vance estate!"
The lead police officer stepped forward, reaching for his cuffs. "Mr. Vance, I'm going to need you to step—"
Daniel didn't even look at the officer. He held up a second black folder, tossing it onto the glass coffee table in front of Margaret.
"Officer Vance," Daniel addressed the lead cop, using the officer's full legal rank. "Before you execute an arrest on behalf of Mrs. Vance, you might want to open that file. It contains the forensic bank records from the Zurich Municipal Bank."
Margaret’s eyes widened. "What bank records?"
"The records showing thirty million dollars transferred from Julian’s estate directly into the precinct captain's private offshore fund forty-eight hours after Julian's accident," Daniel said flatly. "Your department has been under federal wiretap for three weeks."
The lead officer froze, his hand dropping away from his belt as if he had just touched hot iron. He looked down at the folder on the table, then turned his gaze toward Margaret with sudden, cold dread.
"Mrs. Vance," the officer stammered, stepping back. "We... we need to leave."
"What?!" Margaret shrieked, standing up. "You work for my family!"
"Not anymore," Daniel said, stepping into the center of the room like an unflexed predator. "As of six o'clock tonight, the federal magistrate signed an asset freeze against every account linked to Margaret Vance. You have ten minutes to pack your personal belongings, Margaret. Because if you are still on this property at 7:30 PM, you will be arrested for attempted murder."
May you like
Margaret backed away, staring at Daniel as if seeing him for the very first time. The quiet, obedient younger brother who had spent two years managing the family logistics network had vanished.
In his place stood a man ready to tear down the entire Vance dynasty to protect his brother's son.
