Chapter 14 - THE RENEWED ESTATE

Six months later, the spring sun shone brightly over the newly renovated Ferrante Estate.

The oppressive dark oak paneling and heavy velvet drapes were gone, replaced by floor-to-ceiling glass, warm cedar beams, and open courtyards designed by Sienna herself. The once-dark underground garage where the painful confrontation had occurred had been completely transformed into a bright, airy workshop and art studio for Mila.

A grand garden party was underway on the south lawn to celebrate Mila’s eighth birthday and the official opening of the first community housing complex built by the Vance-Ferrante Foundation.

Dozens of children ran across the manicured grass, playing tag while a local jazz trio played soft music near the marble fountain.

Sienna stood on the sunlit terrace, dressed in a comfortable cream linen dress, watching Mila teach Clara’s younger brothers how to paint on outdoor easels. Little Elena, now a healthy, bubbly fourteen-month-old toddler, waddled across the lawn toward Nico, who knelt down with open arms to catch her.

Mark walked up to Sienna, holding two glasses of fresh lemonade.

"It’s hard to believe this is the same estate, Mrs. Ferrante," Mark said with a warm smile.

"It isn't the same estate, Mark," Sienna replied, taking a glass and looking around at the laughter filling the gardens. "The old estate was a fortress built to hide greed. This home is built on love."

Nico walked over to the terrace, holding little Elena on his hip, while Mila ran up behind them, holding a freshly painted picture of a sunlit house with a large family standing in front.

"Look, Mommy!" Mila cheered, holding up the painting. "I drew Grandpa, you, me, Elena, and Mark!"

Nico looked at the drawing, his heart full, and wrapped his free arm around Sienna and Mila. "It is a masterpiece, my little detective."
